Part 4 of the Chakra Series
Welcome to Part 4 of our chakra series, where I explore each of the seven main chakras, their unique qualities, and how they influence your well-being. Part 3 provided an overview of the second chakra—the sacral chakra. If you missed it, I invite you to read it now.
My goal for this series is to help you become more aware of your energetic body. I am humbled to create a platform for self-exploration and self-reflection to help bring balance to one's overall energetic state. I am grateful for your participation!
The Solar Plexus Chakra:
Your Center of Personal Power

Our journey through the chakras continues upward. While the sacral chakra focuses on external relationships, the solar plexus chakra shifts inward—to your relationship with yourself.
Say hello to the solar plexus chakra, or Manipura, located between the navel and the base of the sternum. Serving as our center of personal power, the solar plexus represents individuality while celebrating our connection to all of humanity.
This chakra develops between ages 14 and 21. It is associated with the element of fire and the color yellow, symbolizing:
Personal power
Self-confidence
Courage to take risks
The ability to simply be
Understanding the solar plexus chakra’s qualities provides insight into its influence on your well-being.
Identifying Solar Plexus Chakra Imbalances
The condition of the solar plexus chakra influences how well we overcome fears of rejection and criticism; develop a unique identity; and build self-acceptance, self-respect, and resilience.
A balanced solar plexus chakra allows you to manifest personal desires and navigate challenges with confidence. Below are characteristics of imbalanced and balanced solar plexus energy.
Excessive Energy (Spinning Too Fast):
Behaviors: Angry, controlling, workaholic, judgmental, superior
Emotional Impact: Over-aggressiveness, a victim mentality, difficulty in skillful self-expression
Blocked Energy (Spinning Sluggishly or Not at All):
Behaviors: Overly concerned with others' opinions, fearful of being alone, insecure, needing constant reassurance
Emotional Impact: Lack of direction, low self-esteem, feelings of stagnation or inertia
Balanced Energy (Equilibrium and Proper Vibrational Flow):
Behaviors: Respects self and others, possesses personal power, is spontaneous and uninhibited
Emotional Impact: Confidence in choices and actions, empowerment, excitement about life, strong self-worth, resilience in the face of challenges
Ways to Support and Balance Your Solar Plexus Chakra
There are various practices and tools you can use to restore and maintain a balanced sacral chakra. Below are some suggestions to help you nurture this foundational energy center:
Dietary Support
Eating grounding and nourishing foods can help bring balance to the solar plexus chakra. Focus on complex carbohydrates.
Essential Oils and Incense
Scents have a powerful effect on energy centers. The following are particularly helpful for the solar plexus chakra:
Cinnamon – Supports relaxation, reduces stress, and promotes body acceptance
Rose – Encourages self-acceptance, calms the mind, and opens the heart
Vetiver – Enhances calmness, grounding, and emotional connection
Bergamot – Promotes self-worth, optimism, and balance
Crystals
Crystals that resonate with the solar plexus chakra can help you feel more connected and secure. These include:
Yellow Citrine – Access to personal power
Calcite – Boosts energy, supports the pancreas, kidneys, and spleen
Sunstone – Reduces stomach tension
Malachite – Encourages self-confidence and self-compassion
Physical Movement
Movement can help balance the energy flow in the solar plexus chakra:
Abdominal strengthening exercises
Yoga flows that awaken your connection to your body
Journaling Prompts
Reflecting on your relationship with your physical and emotional well-being can deepen awareness. Ask yourself:
How do I demonstrate my personal power?
What risks can I take to strengthen my personal power base?
How do I use your anger? (Controlled anger is a healthy expression of personal power. Try venting anger by punching a cushion.)
Affirmations and Mantras
Positive affirmations and chanting can help reprogram the solar plexus chakra. Examples include:
Affirmation: “My personal power is becoming stronger each day.”
Mantra: Chant "RAM," the solar plexus chakra seed sound, during meditation or yoga.
Meditation
Meditation calms the mind and enhances awareness of the solar plexus chakra. Try this visualization:
Picture a warm sun on your back as you gaze into a fire.
Imagine yellow light flowing through both the sun and fire, connecting to the area between your navel and sternum.
I’ve created a four-minute guided meditation to support you in this practice.
Embracing Your Personal Power
Balancing the solar plexus chakra is essential for reducing stress, improving self-esteem, and strengthening relationships. By engaging in these practices and observing how you feel, you may discover a greater sense of security, vitality, and connection to life.
Remember, healing is a journey, and awareness is the first step.
