Over the next seven months, I’ll be diving into each of the seven main chakras, exploring their unique qualities, how they influence your well-being, and simple ways to restore balance. This post serves as an introduction to the entire chakra system, laying the groundwork for the journey ahead. Stay tuned for upcoming deep dives into each chakra, one by one!
Did you know that each cell in our body has its own powerhouse called the mitochondrion? These tiny powerhouses produce energy, creating what could be considered an energy vortex. The word chakra comes from Sanskrit, meaning “wheel.” These subtle energy systems are traditionally depicted as lotus flowers, each resonating at a different frequency. While some texts mention hundreds or even thousands of chakras, for this introduction, I’ll focus on the seven main chakras.
The history of the chakra system dates back to before 2,500 BC. It’s said that the Vedas—the four holy books of Hinduism—contain the earliest mention of these “maps of consciousness,” also known as the chakra system.
Why Are Chakras Important?
You might wonder: why is this important to know? These energy centers are one of the many areas I evaluate during treatment sessions. I tune into the sensations of the chakra system to identify where the body may need help rebalancing. Balancing the chakras often supports the regulation of physical dysfunction, not just in my clients’ bodies but in my own as well. I’ve witnessed profound healing when physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs are addressed together.
How Do Chakras Work?
The chakras function like interconnected, self-opening valves that channel the “electrical current” of the Universal Life Force into the body. When one part of the system experiences dysfunction or blockage, it can affect all other parts. These systems are metaphysically linked to various processes within the physical body. For any chemical action to occur, there must first be a change in the body’s electromagnetic energy. This energy stems from the mind, highlighting the essential connection between mind and body in maintaining our physical, emotional, and mental health.
An Invitation: Explore with Me!
Over the next seven months, I’ll explore the seven main chakras with you. This journey will help you recognize how blockages or dysfunctions in these energy centers might relate to challenges in your life—and I’ll share simple ways to transform disruptions and bring your system back into balance. I’ll also reference material from The Book of Chakra Healing by Liz Simpson.
As Liz Simpson writes:“The old scientific paradigm of relating to health purely in terms of the ‘visible’ is now being superseded by an appreciation of ‘truths’ once embraced only by mystics: that thoughts and the mind precede and affect physical matter. After all, what is thought but a form of energy?”

Briana
